Questions for an MK? Empty Questions for an MK?

Post by Connie_Kendall Fri Apr 12, 2013 4:39 am

Okay, so whenever I go back to the U.S., I notice there is a lot of confusion about who MKs are, and what they do. Ask anything! I would love to answer anything!

Do you like being a MK? What's it like to live somewhere other than the U.S.?

I love being an MK. It can be really hard sometimes, like when I have to say good-bye to really good friends (my best friend lives in another country) or when I go back to the States there is a lot of culture shock for me. There are a lot of expectations people have for MKs. They expect them to be like them, totally American, or whatever culture. But we aren't. We are third culture kids. We aren't our parents culture, we aren't the culture we live in, so we have our own little "culture" But there are some really great things about it too Like meeting people from all around the world, and seeing God working in so many ways. Oh, and conferences! Those are awesome. Think the best youth group EVER, with friends you see every 2 years, then for a week, sometimes 2 weeks long, and getting to do whatever you want, almost whenever. Yeah, those are great. It's kinda hard to put into words But I love being an MK. I wouldn't trade it for anything!

Hmm, there are so many! Conferences have a lot of memories that I cherish for years and years. One was a couple of years ago, when I saw my bestie. Our parents have known each other for years and years, so whenever we get together, we spend a lot of time with each other. We had a whole week with them, before the conference, so it was just us and them. My friend and I could go and explore the huge hotel, the beach, and some of the area around it. That was great. Another one was just this past year. We had a team come out to help with the kids. There were several girls that were our age, so we planned a "girls night" for the end of the week. Over the week, we all saved as much American candy as possible, bought pop, and saved fruit and other things from the meals. Then on the last night, we watched a movie, did nails, and had pigged out. It was great Very Happy

Do you minister in a lot of rural areas? Like 'middle of no where' areas?

I know this may sound like a surprise, but no, we don't. A lot of people think that M's go out and minister, live in villages and huts, and people become christians. And that is true in a lot of cases. But it's not always that easy. It's really hard on some members in my family to live like that, and it really effects them. So much so that we need to live in a busier city were we can have electricity and hot water and can decorate a little bit. But we do go out and try to reach people. My dad has several bible studies going with unbelievers, and he is often in the villages helping out with a school for young kids and those who don't have much money. It's pretty cool Very Happy But other than that, we don't go out into "middle of no where" areas Very Happy

People in cites need Jesus just as rural areas do.

Do you want to become a M when you grow up?

I think I know what you mean... I know I'm called to children's ministry, but I really don't know what age, or where... Or what outlet for that matter!
Just waiting on God.
Do you want your ministry to be a family ministry?
