Re: Hunger Games
I really liked the books. I'm excited for the second movie too.

Re: Hunger Games
I have not read the books, nor have I seen the movie. I really haven't liked the sound of the story plot since I heard about it when the movie first came out.
I had some friends tell me that the books were really good, so I thought I might give them a try. But I read a in depth review on the books, and didn't like the end outcome (I was willing to give them a chance.)
So I have chosen for myself to not go down this road of "The Hunger Games." But I will admit that many have told me that the books were well written and the movie well made

If I may ask, why do you not like the end outcome?

Re: Hunger Games
I didn't care for the compromise. If I'm going to read about this big rebellion of people against government, I don't want it to end in a compromise.
I know they get married and have kids and stuff... But that just didn't seem worth it to me.
I didn't find the good to out weigh the bad. (from the in depth review I read)

Re: Hunger Games
The author wrote the books to show people how wrong it is to kill each other and stuff like that. And you have to remember the government in the books was very corrupt and was sending 23 KIDS to die every year.
Re: Hunger Games
Yeah I know that. And I suppose maybe it's a good thing. The young people in our generation seem to have a complete lack or moral or backbone. So maybe it's a good thing to have a book where the main characters are standing up for what is right. I'm all for that!
I just didn't want to read it. From the review I read, where the book was excellently written, it had a lot of things I didn't care for. For one, the whole Katniss focusing on assassinating that higher up... Is that really the only way? The bible teaches us not to murder. But isn't that what she is trying to do? Is it okay to murder if it's for the better of man kind? Is it okay to murder someone who is enforcing murders of others? Is that the point we want to get across?
If I remember correctly, she doesn't end up murdering him (if I remember correctly.) But she does focus on that for a long time... I just didn't like it .
This of course is all coming from someone who only knows as much as that review told her. So I might be mixing details and getting things completely wrong! And normally I stay out of debates that I am ignorant of the subject...

Re: Hunger Games
Umm did you go to www.badbookreviews.com or something? Because that is wrong. She doesn't focus on killing Snow for a long time at all. And Snow was kinda trying to kill her little sister and a bunch of other kids. Are you telling me that if someone right now came to your house and tried to kill a member of your family you'd just sit there and watch?
Re: Hunger Games
This is why I don't debate about things I haven't read of seen .
I'm not sure where I read that review... But just to refresh my knowledge (though limited) I read focus on the family's reviews on the books (It was in depth for each book.)
I still think Katniss' focus on revenge and assassinating Snow is unhealthy. It was her drive. But is that bad? Is it okay to murder someone because they are a murderer also? It's a hard question.
As for everything else: I'm still in the same place. Between the gore and violence, kissing and insinuated "doing the do" (I'm not saying it was done, but Katniss and Peeta both let everyone assume that it happened.)
I'm not saying that the book isn't eye opening... And that it shouldn't be read. As I said earlier, our generation needs a back bone! Maybe this will inspire them to want to stand up for others.
I still don't want to read or watch the Hunger Games though. I know what I believe, and am willing to stand for that. Plus I don't want inspiration from The Hunger Games, I want it from God. From his word. From the people throughout history who have stood up for Him. That's the example I want to have.

Re: Hunger Games
You didn't answer my last question.
KATNISS ISN'T FOCUS ON ASSASSINATING SNOW AT ALL!!!! SHE'S FREAKING CREEPED OUT BY HIM BECAUSE HE KEEPS SHOWING UP PLACES!!!!
And what's wrong with kissing? and they never insinuated anything.

Re: Hunger Games
Sorry, I had forgotten that you had asked that: If someone came up to my house and tried to murder one of my family members I would absolutely protect! Even if that meant having to shoot that person. I would do it.
But I think there is a difference between protecting from an assault and a attempt of murder. God says not to murder. Can we contradict that? But does that apply in war? That is a question you have to ask yourself.
Now I don't want to have a livid argument about this. I already stated that I haven't read the books. Nor do I want to. That's my choice. So whether Katniss is actually driven by this or not, I couldn't say.
As far as the kissing thing, there is nothing wrong per se with kissing. I myself don't approve of pre marital kissing (That is a personal conviction of mine.)

Re: Hunger Games
Good.
And that most definitely does not apply to war. Why would God send the Israelites to go to war with other nations if God didn't approve of war? And assassinations are a part of war, just like they assassinated Osama bin Laden last year. And fyi, Katniss never ever assassinated Snow. She assassinated some general lady that I don't remember.

Re: Hunger Games
Yeah, I read that in the review. I believe it was the corrupted president of district 13... But there i go again, spouting about something I know nothing about!
That is true. Different rules apply in war...

Re: Hunger Games
Well, the movie is well-made. The books are (I've heard) well written. But... they are about killing. Not only are they about killing, but killing CHILDREN. Innocent children. I mean, I know there are lots of other books and movies about killing, or violence, but those stories are not sorely around the killing. And they are not about killing kids. Can you see what I mean?

Re: Hunger Games
That's the whole point. It's a dystopian series! It's about how bad things can get, and in ways are. There's nothing wrong with that. Katniss physically and mentally beaten to a pulp, but it all has a point. Plus, it's just plain fun, romantic, exciting, tightly plotted fun.Liza'like wrote: didn't find the good to out weigh the bad. (from the in depth review I read)
But in any case, maybe you're just saying they're not your thing? That's understandable, they're certainly not to all tastes.
